Florence Road (free) 02:15
Stuck in grey clouds, See the raindrops pound the concrete In this town's hapless haze. Are we chained to this earth from birth? Girl crying on the phone Make this room a living hell With a bleakness so real Don't stay, Don't stay for a loser like me. Baby, we deserve more light than we let in. We deserve more light than we let in. Take me away from Florence Road. I want to seize the day But not burn it out or throw it away I want to lie with you in open fields with an itchy nose Lately I've been thinking, That maybe, we deserve more light than we let in. We deserve more light than we let in, Take me away from Florence Road.

On The Streets Alone (free) 04:07
Don't try to judge me man you can't understand How the walls of this city can worm hate into a man Now I'll take all you down, I'll throw my shirt in the wet and the dirt 'cus I'm On the streets alone. I see a girl on a stool in a window Playing fiddle with her boyfriend O how I wish I was there instead of him O how I wish I was better company On the streets alone. I had a job up in Letterkenny November 1985 Well I slipped, fell and shattered my ribs Dragged my bones all the way home And it was not the thought of my woman Nor the need for her embrace That kept me crawling through the piss and the rain Twenty miles away And it was not the taste of her whiskey And it was not her rum It was the fear of dying all alone On the road to Ballyutogue. So take a step back mister Take a step back now, And take one look into the eyes of a warrior. On the streets alone. Let me tell you something kid Some day you're gonna be a star You're gonna sing you're song to all the people Let 'em know how things really are Behind the mask of society That holds us all in place You're gonna be a star someday kid You're gonna blow 'em all away And I'll be on the streets alone.

Temple Bar Blues (free) 02:44
Take me away, take me away, Baby, take me far away from here. Away from the cars, the buses and trains The walking wounded and their hateful gaze The radio blast, the junkie's moan, And all the concrete demons that devour your hope. Do you feel it too, all washed up and used? Like you're wasted your breath on your point of view? Because nobody listens, nobody wants to. Nobody listens, nobody wants to. Well you cut through the crowd and how dare I describe Words like freedom and passion that I found on the inside? I stood by your fire and you let me Your body screamed and your eyes were alive And you said, "take me away, take me away, baby take me far away from here". You looked at me with them big eyes and I fell. Did you get what you wanted, son of mine? Are you still trapped in your lonely mind? Are you waiting forever for a chance to seize the day? You'll throw it all away. And you won't be welcome on your old stomping ground, And you won't be welcome... So shut it boy. Take me away, take me away, take me far away from here And you looked at me with them big eyes and I fell.

about

Champion Jim began writing songs at the tender age of 12 but it was only when he wrote Florence Road in March 2009 that he started to take his music seriously. In December 2010 he formed a band with two close friends, Adam and Paul and produced their first EP entitled the ‘Florence Road’ EP. After gigging mercilessly through the summer of 2011 to promote the EP, Adam decided to return to his native Hungary. Since then, Champion Jim has been a one man show, gigging up to 4 nights a week in open mics around the city as well headlining in The Sugar Club, Crawdaddy, The Mezz and The Czech Inn in Temple Bar through contact with various promoters around the city. He also has a vast experience of organizing his own events; the most recent of which being ‘2 Weekends of Champion Jim’ in the Twisted Pepper which was a great success. He is all set to record his first full length album, Cadence in the age of the epic fail, in the Hive Studios, Kilcoole, in early June. Watch Out.
